Modern Makeover: DIY Plexi Backsplash

Despite best efforts to choose just the right place, renters are often stuck with a kitchen that doesn't quite match up with their design aesthetic. Recently HGTV contacted me about creating a removable, usable backsplash solution that would allow people to change it if they wish. Renters were at top of mind, but this solution is perfect for anyone who wants an inexpensive update and the ability to change their mind without breaking the bank.

The pattern is provided here by way of upholstery fabric, but it could also be done with a great paper or wallpaper, too. With acrylic sheeting and clear silicon caulk, the pattern is protected while providing a shot of personality to an otherwise boring space.

Warming Spirits: Cold Weather Cocktails

Cooler temperatures bring along the festive season and plenty of good reason to huddle indoors together. As the parties begin so will your quest to find drinks to serve. This year I have created five new cold weather cocktails for HGTV.

I'd like to tell you I had a favorite, but I really loved them all for different reasons. The one thing I will say is that the Chocolate Covered Cherry Cocktail was truly reminiscent of those drug store version chocolates from my childhood.

Weekend Wrap Up: 11.15.15

Happy Sunday

What a crazy week! It was a race to the finish line, but I am happy to say that the last of my major projects for the year came to a close yesterday. The last week was comprised of very long days of cooking and shooting. I will be sure to share some of those photos as soon as they are published.

Now it is time to take a very short break and then get focused on creating some holiday magic. I have a bunch of ideas bouncing around in my head that I can't wait to share with you. Bring on the eggnog!

1 Critical Bikes - on Amazon. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had upgraded from my old bike with far too many gears that I never used to a single speed bike. This is the one I got. I love it. I went for the most basic matte black, but as you can see there are many styles and colors. The options are staggering. Check them out on Amazon or shop

2 Falksalt Smoked Sea Salt Flakes - on Amazon. I have 8 different salts in my cupboard. I feel like a crazy person. This latest smoke version makes 9. I bought it for a recipe shoot and loved it. I'm not sure how much smoke flavor it added to the dish, but as a finishing salt you do get a hint of smoke flavor. The flakes themselves are brownish and smell divine.

3 Q Card Phone Case / Wallet - on Amazon. Game. Changer. I will never carry a wallet again. This case handily holds my ID, two credit cards, and cash. It is truly one of those things that makes you say 'why didn't I do this sooner'? They are available for just about any current model phone.

4 Cuisipro Julienne Peeler - on Amazon. I don't know why I did not own one of these before, but I just purchased one this week. Forget about spiralizing. This thing is super simple and tucks into a corner of a drawer. Make shoestring potatoes, carrot matchsticks for salad, or long zucchini 'noodles' for pasta sauce. If you don't have one, get one.

Note: While nearly everything you find within the pages of Today's Nest is original content, the Weekend Wrap Up contains some photos that are not my work. The intent is purely to promote those associated with the work. If, however, something here belongs to you and you wish to have it removed, please contact me. All of these opinions are my own. Seven Course Meal: Just Drizzle It Video

When in doubt, just drizzle it. That's what I did this week when my friends at California Giant, Cabot Cheese, Scharffen Berger Chocolate, and Blendtec Blenders asked me to create this video. Watch as I piece together each dish, plating and creating palate pleasing flavors and textures for the ultimate in seven course meals.

This is the most fun I've had making a video since, well, the last video I did for California Giant and Scharffen Berger Chocolate (which can be found here). I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
