Making Your Nest a Little Better

I will be making some changes around here over the next few weeks... tidying up the Nest as it were. The first thing to go is subscriber updates via Feedburner. There's nothing wrong with Feedburner, but I use MailChimp for newsletters and I only recently realized that I could use it for RSS feeds, too.

What does that mean for you? Well, if you are currently subscribed to the newsletters then nothing but good news for you. Beginning this week, you will receive a once (weekly) update via MailChimp with all of the most recent articles.

If you are also subscribed to the RSS feeds through Feedburner you will get duplicates through Monday. At which point I will be turning off the RSS feed connection at Feedburner. Lastly, if you are ONLY subscribed to the RSS feeds through Feedburner you will need to subscribe to the newsletters to continue to get Today's Nest updates. You can do that here or on the left.

I think you will agree that this new format is easier to view and hopefully getting just one update per week will be better than once a day... when I'm doing that many.

Taste Summer: Skinny Summertime

Summer begs for light, fresh meals. Crunchy fruits and vegetables reimagined in ways that add bright color to the table and mealtime satisfaction. Apart from grilling and making pasta (I can't be stopped) very little gets served hot around here during the summer months. I prefer to keep things simple and take advantage of all that fresh produce growers have to offer.

I recently completed a project for several produce folks that included peppers, cucumber, berries, radishes, celery, and watermelon. The task at hand was to create tasty summer dishes pairing these ingredients and adding a few extra. The results were delicious. The photos are below. Click any of the photos to be redirected to the site where the recipe lives. While you're there, check out some of the other recipes offered by these folks for even more summery goodness.

As an added bonus I made a video featuring two of the recipes and highlighting the joy of fresh food and getting outside and being active during these summer months. You can see it below.

Taste Summer: Idaho Potato Commission Potato Salads

Nothing says summer quite the way that picnics do. And no picnic is complete without potato salad. Whether you are out in the park or just hanging out on the porch, potato salads are a cool and hearty way to stay fueled for summer fun. I recently teamed up with Coryanne Ettiene (and family) to create a video highlighting two of her favorite potato salad recipes for the Idaho Potato Commission. The result was fun... and tasty.

You can see the video below and visit Idaho Potatoes for Coryanne's recipes.

Taste Summer: Avocados From Peru

The past month has been incredible hectic as I wrap up the final touches on the summer issue of BOX NINE magazine. Juggling that project with client work has made for some very long, but fun, days. The magazine is slated to launch within the next week and my client projects for June are all tied up neatly.

ABLT by Sam Henderson of Savour Imagery for Avocados from Peru

One of those projects was this recent collaboration with Coryanne Ettiene for Avocados from Peru. Together, we created an eBook and supporting video to help highlight this summer staple. Included in the pages of the eBook are summer lifestyle tips and 18 glorious avocado recipes. You can see all the avocado goodness here.

Our video project brings some of the recipes to life and provides a look at a casual summer dinner party featuring stuffed avocados. You can see it below.

Stay tuned this week for lots more recipes including potato salads and light summer recipes that shoot off the flavor charts without tipping the scales.

Fresh Ideas: Finish with Wagner

Nobody loves DIY projects more than me. They offer plenty of creative outlet and (if successful) add to the overall look of your home. With some well-thought ideas, you have complete control of the design of your space.

The easiest way to transform any project or room is paint. It is relatively inexpensive and easy to change if you are dissatisfied. And with the right tools for the job, painting doesn't have to be a chore.

I recently teamed up with Wagner for their eBook, Finish. It is loaded with DIY projects that are fun and simple. Click here or the photo above to get your free copy. With summer just around the corner, now is a good time to consider those patio projects. Below you will find an excerpt from the eBook detailing my take on a modern Adirondack chair.
